For some time yacht builders have gone to great lengths building B&W CI loudspeakers into ocean going luxury yachts. Basically specialist marine loudspeakers available in the market did not live up to the sonic and aesthetic requirements of their customers. They therefore modified our existing designs to stand up to marine conditions. This was no easy task and without the ability to construct key parts, the yacht companies have had to replace weatherworn cosmetic parts on a regular basis. To say the least this is obviously not satisfactory for the yacht builders, their customers or for B&W for that matter, whose name is on the loudspeakers.   

Consequently and to address this market B&W has developed two flush mount loudspeakers that fully comply with the tough marine IP66 regulations while living up to the acoustic performance and industrial design standards expected of all B&W products.  

Performance

The Marine 6 & 8 utilises the basic construction method and key parts from the CCM 362 and 382 that allows the designs to be made waterproof. However, all drivers and components have been modified and optimised to ensure the best possible acoustic performance whilst maintaining full operation under the toughest of weather conditions.

This necessitates using a variety of different materials, fully encasing electric components and protecting all surfaces from corrosion as well as ensuring continued function after regular cleaning by a high pressure water jet.

The result is that the designs are very rugged and ideal for use on ocean going vessels, but equally applicable for outdoor use in domestic homes situated in challenging seaside locations.  

Marine 6 is a two-way loudspeaker with a 25mm (1in) tweeter and a 150mm (6in) polypropylene bass/midrange driver. It boasts an IP66 rating for incredible ruggedness when installed and is the more compact of the Marine Series loudspeakers and fits into a depth of 88mm (3.5in) with a cut-out of 200mm
